PEOPLE BOOTS

Our new PEOPLE BOOTS:

Madeline, at the age of 3, was putzing around minding her own schedule. Definitely, she was not listening to my pleading voice.

"Come on, hurry up! Hurry up! get your barn boots on, and lets go" I kept telling her. No matter what I said or how I said it, she continued to be in her own world.

"Madeline! Get your barn boots on and come on!...blah blah blah... Are you hearing your mother? lets go!"

"Mom!" she finally said.

"What?!"

"They are not barn boots."

"Then what are they?"

"They are people boots!"

And we still call them people boots. People boots are the best all around shoe in our house. They go on easy, come off easy, and are easy to clean. Madeline gets a new pair every year and this year they happened to have my size on sale too!

Blah, blah, Madeline, blah, blah, blah, Madeline, blah, blah, Madeline.
I think that is what Madeline hears when she is tuning you out.

Is that a refinished treddle sewing machine? I learned to sew on one when I was 14. I did not get an electric one for several years after that.

What a cute name for mud/rain boots.

I'm sure Lori is right and my daughter tuned me out all the time.

Tina,
Yes, it is a refinished treddle sewing machine. And, suprised as you may be... It was given to me by my mother. (I don't use it, but I probably could if I needed to.) I have an old 70's electric singer that I use. They don't make the new machines like they used to that is for sure!

My sewing machine after the treddle was an electric Singer and I think I got it in the late 60's. Then probably about 10 years later, my mother bought me a Sears with lots of fancy stitch cams (which I never used). When I went to make a buttonhole last winter, the zigzag did not work. I keep forgetting to take it in for cleaning and to have that fixed. The tension is always off so I think I am due for a new machine. I wish I had the old treddle but I'll never get it. It looks fantastic refinished.

Maddy is so funny, she was probably frantically looking for "barn" boots, unable to find them not realizing what you meant. How is Cooper? I want to see pictures!

Oh, Adam told me that there was a break in on our street last week... We always go to bed with a loaded gun, but now he's got them ALL loaded. I hope no one chooses to break into our house. They won't have a CHANCE to be sorry. Glad you have a protector now.

Did you get a dog?

A friend emailed this to me today. Good advice since you are along when your husband is gone on business.

PUT YOUR CAR KEYS BESIDE YOUR BED AT NIGHT

Tell your spouse, your children, your neighbors, your parents your
Dr office, the check- out girl at the market, everyone you run across.
Put your car keys beside your bed at night. If you hear a noise
outside your home or someone trying to get in your house, just
press the panic button for your car. The alarm will be set off, and
the horn will con continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery dies.
This tip came from a neighborhood watch coordinator. Next time you come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of this:
It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and
requires no installation. Test it. It will go off from most everywhere inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the key
fob chain. It works if you park in your driveway or garage If your
car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break in your house, odds are the burglar rapist won't stick around... after a few
seconds all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see
who is out there and sure enough the criminal won't want that. And
remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking
lot. The alarm can work the same way there .... This is something
that should really be shared with everyone. Maybe it could save a
life or a sexual abuse crime.
P. S. I am sending this to everyone I know because I think it is fantastic. Would also be useful for any emergency, such as a heart attack, where you can't reach a phone. My Mom has suggested to my Dad that he carry his car keys with him in case he falls outside and she doesn't hear him. He can activate the car alarm and then she'll know there's a problem.

Pass this along to your family and friends.

I sold some people boots today at the kids' consignment job. I immediately thought of your blog. It has poured here all day.
